  • What would I be doing?


    The incumbent in this position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the riverboat and its systems ensuring proper operation according to all applicable regulatory agency regulations year round, completing quarterly inspections and having the riverboat fully ready for ABS Consulting. Inc.’s annual and semi-annual inspections.  The individual is also responsible for serving both the external and internal customers by providing a friendly and safe atmosphere on the riverboat.

    1. Provide extraordinary guest service, positively effects interactions with internal/external guests, resiliency to deal with difficult guests in all encounters and the ability to work harmoniously with fellow team members.
    2. Directly supervises Casino Porters and their day to day responsibilities.
    3. Adhere to and enforce compliance with all regulations established by the Louisiana State Police - Gaming Division, United States Coast Guard, ABS Consulting, OSHA and other applicable agencies pertaining to riverboat gaming and riverboat operations while adhering to the policies and procedures set forth by Boomtown Casino & Hotel.
    4. Maintain all equipment/systems onboard the riverboat ensuring all are operational and kept in a state of readiness by using a preventive maintenance schedule, inspections and tracking of tasks assigned & completed. 
    5. Complete projects, tasks and duties with minimal impact to guest service.
    6. Report unsafe work actions or violations of policy by Team Members to their respective department supervisors or managers.
    7. Ensure Security Officer qualification program is administered properly and candidates are trained in all aspects required.
    8. Coordinates tasks requiring Porter support with the Assistant Casino Manager.
    9. During absences of Captain-In-Charge and Engineer-In-Charge, fulfill responsibilities as Riverboat Person-in-Charge per the riverboat’s Station Bill when onboard.
    10. Provide comprehensive training (a) on riverboat life safety systems to Security Officers and (b) assist the Captain-In-Charge in conducting emergency response training for persons assigned Station Bill duties.
    11. Informs Captain-In-Charge of any unsafe issue related to the riverboat.  Takes prompt action to abate unsafe issues on the riverboat.
    12. Execute all tasks as assigned by the Captain-In-Charge.

    What are we looking for?


    • Must pass a chemical dependency test as required and work in a drug free environment.
    • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate work authorization required to perform job responsibilities.
    • Possess either of the following as a minimum:
      • Hold or has held a merchant marine license as Mate of motor vessels of 1,600 gross tons.  An inactive document is acceptable if it is less than five years old and has not been suspended or revoked. 
      • Successfully complete the Captain-Of-The-Watch qualification program, have at least 90 days service time aboard the riverboat and one of the following experience requirements;
    • One year of marine experience aboard cruising vessels.
    • Two years of marine experience on dockside riverboats.
    • Three years of related experience in life safety equipment and emergency response procedures.
    • Prior experience onboard riverboat casinos preferred.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • High degree of interpersonal skills.
    • Must have strong leadership and team building skills.
    • Must be detail oriented.
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.


    • Ability to create or read and interpret documents such as riverboat schematics, blueprints, construction drawings and policy and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine correspondence and process needed reports.
    • Ability to speak effectively with customers and/or Team Members.
    • Ability to create or carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems and implement effective solutions.
    • Must be flexible to work varying shifts and time schedules as needed.
    • This position operates in a working environment that is subject to varying levels of noise, cold, heat, humidity, vibration, crowds, and smoke.
