Overview

The Test Barn Assistant collects specimens of blood and/or urine before or after race; follows property protocol as directed by the company and by the assigned racing commission; maintains a clean and safe working environment; provides labor support to higher level staff; and performs related tasks within area of assignment.

Responsibilities

Delivers superior internal and external guest service the Pinnacle Way by ensuring every interaction includes our Six Core Service Standards (Look sharp, smile and greet the guest; Be friendly, polite and use courteous language; Provide especially timely and knowledgeable service and then some; Always find solutions to guests’ problems; Use the guest’s name when appropriate; Thank the guest and invite him or her back.); and work harmoniously with fellow team members.
 
Assumes responsibility for the collection of specimens that include blood and/or urine before or after race.
 
Maintains logs and activities performed including all collections and verifies packaging of specimens; enters data into system.
 
Ensures all paperwork pertaining to collection performed is completed properly including horse name and time of collection; turns in all receipts, paperwork and samples to the proper designated area.
 
Maintains a clean and sanitary worksite; .
 
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and innovations in the field of Veterinary Phlebotomy.
 
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, plus three (3) years experience working in Veterinary Phlebotomy.

 

  • ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: (Licenses, Certifications, Testing, etc.):
  • Ability to maintain all Regulatory licenses..
  • Must successfully pass background check
  • Must successfully pass an alcohol and drug screening
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be willing to work weekends, Friday and Saturday nights, and holidays if needed

 

  • PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

 

  • Knowledge of:
  • Operations, services and activities of a Veterinary Phlebotomy operation; specimen collection and knowledge of thoroughbred racing test barn operations; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

 

  • Ability to:
  • Collect specimens in a clean and safe manner; ensure documents and specimens are labeled correctly and turned into the appropriate locations; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; prepare clear and concise reports; interpret and explain policies and procedures; interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws and regulations.
